I am the daughter of Mr Leslie Smith who has been a patient of Mr Santhanam for a few years now. My father is 11 years post CVA and has Botox therapy to reduce saliva production. Mr Santhanam is welcoming and professional throughout. He is aware that speech is challenging for dad and he adjusts his communication comfortably to ensure patient centred care. He has a calm bedside manner with his patients and with junior staff who dad consents to being taught clinically within the consultations. As a nurse of 30 years, I take a lead on my dad’s medical journey and have huge professional respect for Mr Santhanam and am sure he is wonderful colleague too.

I fell hard on my chin and broke a bone in my jaw resulting in my upper and lower teeth being out of alignment. A week later I was sitting in clinic 8 waiting to be seen and feeling very anxious, worried that I would have to make a decision that I didn’t feel capable of making. I also knew the NHS was under tremendous pressure. But I had no need for concern because on entering the consulting room Mr Santhanam introduced himself with a warm and welcoming smile. I was instantly put at ease. Mr Santhanam explained everything and guided me towards the only sensible way forward. I left the clinic relieved and confident I was in safe hands. The operation was a complete success, my bite has been restored and I am now able to eat solids again. Despite the unfortunate circumstances it has been a positive experience and a real privilege to have met and been treated by such a kind, inspirational man and excellent clinician. I have now seen Mr Santhanam and his enthusiastic team for the last time. I will be eternally grateful.

Mr Santhanam is a very personable surgeon who puts you at your ease. His skill at operating to remove a basal cell carcinoma on the side of my face was excellent and now about 5 months later I am delighted that the scar is virtually invisible and there have been no after-effects. I am pleased that he too is pleased with the outcome when he discharged me from any further follow-up and I would be happy to recommend him to anyone facing surgery. Eric Johnston
